What is a Gniddew?

Gniddew, (‘wedding’ spelled backwards), is a unique, creative, and completely out-of-the-box event to celebrate a couples’ marriage.

The idea was created in 2020 by Max and Emma Falcon, who eloped at the end of the year, but still wanted to have some sort of celebration at a later date. Since they were already married, it wouldn’t be a wedding per se, but something else.

From late 2019, the couple had done everything backwards. Chronologically, they had:

  • August 7 – 20, 2019 – “Honeymoon” in Australia

  • May 1, 2020 – Adopted a puppy

  • June 24, 2020 – Bought a house together

  • December 4, 2020 – Got married

  • December 5, 2020 – Got engaged

Since everything else in their story went against the grain, why shouldn’t their wedding be backwards as well?

And thus, the Gniddew was born.

As soon as the idea came into existence, we knew we had stumbled upon a what would surely become a cultural revolution: a total rebellion against the traditional American wedding.

Metaphorically, weddings today are a “Paint by Numbers” book. People can select the picture and the colors that they want, and create a beautiful painting, but it will always come out in the same style.

The Gniddew will be a completely blank canvas. It might even be a sculpture.

It will celebrate our love in a way that is unique and special to us, rather than trying to fit the mold of a traditional wedding.

As Daenerys Targaryen famously said, “I’m not going to stop the wheel. I’m going to break the wheel.”
